Where: Iwakura Village, Kyoto
Words: Sea Legs / Demons and Gangsters
Takaragaike Park
This park was my favorite running spot in Kyoto, with a mile-long path around a beautiful lake. I saw a handful of other runners there, plus the occasional cat.
The Neighborhood
This ancient stop sign sat near the exit of a quiet parking lot with no cars in it. It seemed proud despite the neglect.

When there was a school nearby, the warning signs got more elaborate. This kind came in at least half a dozen varieties, including a cowboy.
I visited Japan just before Boy's Day, so the carp flags were flying—one for each male in the household. The mom who lives here deserves a medal:

At the local mochi shop, they prepare your order fresh on the spot. While you wait, they bring you musky tea and a little bean cake. Because life is good.

Did you see Lost in Translation? My new theory is that it was based on Tommy Lee's autobiography, and homeboy has lived long and hard.
